I wanted to make this because I like using a large scale of facial features to get the maximum effect out of human emotions and to bring out fun. This piece is interesting because the subject i have drawn throws the energy back at the viewer. Female subjects in art need to be able to challenge people’s view of their identity rather that accept always whats given by popular culture.

I was inspired by Modigliani. He is an artist that focuses on portraits and paints mostly women. His portraits often have focus on the eyes as well and convey lots of emotion.

  1. Find a drawing

  2. Put a graph on it

  3. Graph out the paper

  4. Draw the outline according to the measurements

  5. From there just start to shade!

  6. Add any sort of finishing touches such as eyelashes, details in the hair.

My idea for this project came from the three point project. My piece started out as realism until I started to do it in my own style. I think I was able to use my time in class successfully and made the most out of it. If I had more time I would have worked more on the hair and added more detail. I also would have liked to worked more on the proportions. Even though I mentioned that I used class time successfully I feel that I should have gone for a project that was less time consuming or I should have budgeted for more time. As I said before, I was going to do a drawing that was more realist. However, after I drew my outline the drawing looked more like my style than realistic, then I just decided to continue doing it that way. I think a good next step for my project would be to maybe do another portrait in my style but do it in a different medium such as painting or markers.
