Alexa Meade Unit Questions

1) What considerations led you to modify/change your original plan when you were in the process of developing your project?
Originally I wanted to include a shirt I painted in the photos for my project, but my shirt did not turn out the way I really wanted it to. It looked a bit grubby and didn't really match the aesthetic of my background and face. I also wanted to paint my face green, but I thought the orange would be more vibrant and would pop more.

2) What evidence can be found in your portfolio (Instagram and website) of how the exploration and revision stages changed your original idea?
I added more black and white contouring to my face and lips to make the illusion of light. I also added white paint to the orange on my forehead for the same reason. My face paint became more complex as I progressed.

3) What emotions do you associate with the colours you picked for your design? How might other people’s associations of colour change the way they feel when looking at your work?
I think I usually associate the colour orange with happiness and I associate the colour blue with calm and peace. I think other people can associate the colour blue with warmth and orange with confidence friendliness.

4) What criteria would you use when selecting an art work to present to your class?

Would you use different criteria when selecting a work for a community art show? Why? What, if anything, would you do differently when creating your art work if you knew it was going to be displayed in a public space? Why?
When selecting an artwork to present to my class, I would make sure it was a piece that the class might find interesting and maybe told a story that they might find meaningful. For a community art show, my criteria would not be different.

If I knew my art work was going to be displayed in a public space, I would probably spend more time on the fine details and probably look at my work more critically because it is different making art for an audience than for myself.

5) What are some techniques you used to create the effect of light in a painting?

To create the effect of light, I put much more white paint in the orange.I make the colour lighter where I think the light might be reflecting.
